Tips:
- Look for grammatical and spelling errors. Employers see this as not caring enough to take pride in submitting your documents and because of this simple error you could be passed up.
- Make sure you are targeting your cover letter and resume. What does the job description say? Are they look for innovation and leadership skills? Make sure those key points are easy to spot and pick out.
- With your fabulous skill set make sure you are not just listing your skills. Show the employer in demonstrating how you have acquired these skills? Leadership skills? Did you coach a team? Take the lead on a group project? Show them how great you are!
- Be confident! Use assertive words not passive. "I don't have all the skills sets" NO! Be aggressive. "I am confident I will be a valuable asset to you and your company" Who would you hire?
- Have fun. Show you have a creative side. List hobbies and skills that aren't job related. This is OPTIONAL. It helps employers see that you have a life outside the university. That you are creative and can think out of the box.
